Player Autographs

Fred Becker Autographed Piece
becker.jpg

Above is one of the rarest autographs in my collection. This is a signed homework experiment page from Iowa's first 1st Team All-American Fred Becker while he was at Waterloo East High School.  Fred died in 1918 at the very early age of 22 fighting in World War I.  He only played one season at Iowa in 1916 and then joined the war efforts. Crazy RARE is an understatement for this autograph!  If you haven't learned about Fred Becker, you really should.....

"During the battle of Soissons, he went forward with his men and attacked machine gun nests, one of which he destroyed by himself saving many men of his unit. Soon after while leading his platoon, he was killed by an artillery shell. For his courage and valor in battle, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, America's second highest wartime honor, Silver Star, and France awarded him the Croix de Guerre, their highest honor.
